National Grid Challenge

We have recently launched our National Grid Challenge for our Y12 learners at The JCB Academy Sixth Form. Learners who are enrolled on to the BTEC level 3 Extended Engineering Diploma will take part in the challenge as part of studying unit 18 – Electrical Power and Distribution. This unit looks at the complete life cycle of electrical energy from generation to distribution.

We are fortunate to have one of our former students Chanda Kabwe work with us to plan this exciting challenge. Chanda left the sixth form in June 2015 and started with National Grid on their Higher Apprenticeship Programme. He now works as a Project Engineer with National Grid having worked his way up through the company.

The learners will benefit from Chanda’s experience in the sector from lessons he will be delivering at the sixth form. There are also visits to National Grid facilities planned and a practical activity planning, developing and constructing their own distribution system.
