It was our first day off since arriving but we were not lazy! After a 5am Today started early with us leaving our hotel at 5am to travel to Kandy. It was our first day off since arriving in Sri Lanka and we were headed to Kandy for sightseeing and shopping.
After a three hour drive we arrived at an Elephant Sanctuary where the animals are looked after, fed and watered until they are able to be released back into the wild. Then it was onto a tea factory where we were shown the process of tea making before sampling the products and of course being given an opportunity to buy souvenirs.
After our lunch we went to the market and the students very quickly became very good at bartering with the stall traders and came away having got themselves some good deals. We were then taken to a Kandyan dance show and saw fire walking – luckily they didn’t ask for volunteers!
We finished our day off in a lovely hotel overlooking Kandy with a buffet meal and a great night was had by all.
