India trip 2020 – day 2

After a long drive between Delhi and Jaipur soaking in the sights and sounds of the Indian landscape we arrived at JCB to a traditional welcome.

We were treated to an informative tour around the fabrications, powder painting and assembly facilities. A question and answer session followed with some of the JCB employees – the average age of the production employees is 23 years old and there are 35% females working in the production environment. There is no job that cannot be completed by a female at the facility and local laws enable them to work night shift which is unusual in northern India. It was certainly an inspiring tour and as a female engineer it was lovely to see such progression in terms of gender equality in engineering.

We finished our visit with the planting of a tree in the factory orchard.

Looking forward to more adventures to come.
